The WSA Painting Prize celebrates outstanding painting practice at undergraduate level, culminating in an annual exhibition at the Winchester Gallery, University of Southampton in the Autumn of each year.

The Prize is an international initiative seeking to build on a long-standing tradition of cultural and creative exchange between Greece and the UK through education and art.  With the intention of creating opportunities for young Greek artists in collaboration with their contemporaries in the UK, this initiative invites every higher education institution in the UK and in Greece that offers a BA Fine Art or Painting course to nominate a BA student to submit work.

Nominations will be reviewed anonymously and the final selection will be made by British artist Vanessa Jackson RA and Greek artist Christiana Soulou.

The WSA Painting Prize is organized by Winchester School of Art, a centre of excellence for undergraduate fine art with a long tradition of challenging, experimental and accomplished painting.

The WSA Painting Prize has been developed to support artists at an early stage in their practice.

Winchester School of Art (WSA) is recognised and respected as one of the UK’s leading and progressive art and design institutions within the world-renowned University of Southampton, founding member of The Russell Group of Universities. WSA has an established history of almost 150 years with a long tradition of creative education and excellence while developing a future-facing and dynamic environment for teaching, learning and research.

Submissions are accepted by nomination only, solicited from every higher education institution in the UK and in Greece that offers a BA Fine Art or Painting course.

WSA students are ineligible for nomination to the Prize.  They will however participate in the initiative by generating an accompanying publication for the Exhibition.
